MyDA (or, time to tweak MyDD)

My daily Alegre...

Seriously, 3 recommended diaries at once? You know something here is broken when this kind of thing is allowed. Hey Jerome, or whoever runs this place, why don't you hire this person and make it official?

So Alegre, you're a democrat, right? Ready to fight for whoever the nominee is come November?

Update: I'm retiring for the night, but there's a nice little discussion below on some of the areas where MyDD needs a little work. Because with some simple tweaks, it could be a much better site. Amirite?

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 1)

It'll be fun to see what happens after Obama gets the nomination.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 3)

I don't know about 'fun'... I think there'll be alot of bitterness, if you catch my drift.

They'll retreat to Hillaryis44, which I predict will either change it's name to Hillaryis48.org or simply explode into a dazzling pink supernova.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 3)

This is honestly what I believe. MyDD is only on the must-blog list for some of the Hillis44 people because this is one of the few venues where they still have a numbers advantage and can post the most vitrolic tripe against a Democratic candidate and not be laughed out of the room. Once the nomination is clinched, the few impartial blogs they're currently setting up shop in will quickly become much less tolerant of their tactics.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 1)

I thought this was going to be about Perry Mason, Della Street, and Hamilton Burger.

But I have to agree, no person should have more than one diary on the rec list. If a person's newer diary reaches the rec threshold, the older one should scroll off.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 1)

I agree. This site seems a bit quirky in many ways. For example, I was able to write a dairy the moment I signed up. That is insane! Do you realize how many trolls are going to take advantage of that? They should probably enforce a week long wait.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 2)

That's why we have all these random people showing up, writing nonsensical diaries which cite right wing propaganda, and calling other diarists "liberal pukes". There definitely needs to be a waiting period.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 1)

Exactly. That's why you have diaries like this one, also. Maybe a minimum word count is in order as well?

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 4)

I don't know whether that would work, though. Some of the more determined imbeciles around here would probably just write a one sentence diary and then type gibberish at the bottom to make it long enough. Diaries would start to look more like:

OBAMA HATES SMALL TOWNS, and/or HILLARY STILL SHILLING FOR GOP!!!

dafjasfjd afkjdadfj afkjf;djaf fdafdjsk word word more words i hav 2 get this diary 2 post so i am writing words sfadjfadfj lots of them yes obama hates my diary because it was written in a small town caucuses are undemocratic. hillary killed vince foster obamas a muslim k thx bye

...Or, to put it more succinctly, let's just say that people would find their way around a word minimum.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 1)

No, I believe it does work as a deterrent. Or at least, I've seen it work on other sites, such as Dailykos (or, "the Big Orange Satan" as it's become endeared here).

Re: MyDA (none / 0)

From what I can tell....the length of time one is a registered user has no bearing on one's likelihood of being a troll. The worst trolls seem to be users that have been here a good while...not the new members.

Re: MyDA (none / 0)

Well, it wouldn't hurt to put a time limit.

And I think it would help a great deal as a deterrent. For the most part, trolls want immediate satisfaction and reaction.

Oh, yeah. I wish I had the skill to cut and paste something and have it automatically hit the rec list. I'm awful jealous.

Re: Her diaries are popular (2.00 / 1)

Yeah...someone should make a diary about the balance of copied material versus actual "work product" that is acceptable in a diary.  I have a problem when a diary is essentially a cut-and-paste job from a candidate's official website, with a "What s/he said" thrown in a few times between the copied paragraphs.

Re: Her diaries are popular (1.66 / 3)

LOL no. Not a fan of this site, really.

To me, a recommended dairy would be like playing king of the hill on a dung-heap.

Re: Her diaries are popular (none / 0)

Also, it's not her fault that she has 3 recommended diaries up right now- she wrote about something she feels strongly about, and she has an audience. But maybe a bit too much of the platform?

Which again, is not her fault. But somethings not right with the site itself, it seems to me, and it could easily be fixed.

Re: MyDA (2.00 / 3)

I think certain diarists are just automatically rec'd by posters here.  That's about the only way to explain the fact that the 17th, 39th, and 112th diary on this subject (sort of kidding) all end up on the list.

by rfahey22 on Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 02:18:19 AM EST

Your estimate isn't far off. (2.00 / 4)

Has anyone ever bothered to do a count to see how many diaries each successive "scandal" spawns? I'd be interested to know how many NAFTA, Wright, Rezko, and bittergate diaries there have been. But not quite interested enough to find out for myself.

What you are really saying... (2.00 / 3)

Man the free speech at MYDD is getting out of hand.

People are able to recommend diaries and some of the writers are liked by other people more than me.

Can we change the rules so that we all take turns being popular rather than by straight democratic voting?

Sometimes I don't like the views of the popular writers and want their diaries to be restricted in some way.

And some of the popular diaries are short.  Is there some way that we can burden the writing of diaries so that only the VERY committed can write them?  Kind of like a caucus for diaries so that   only the very committed voices are heard not just the regular people who don't want to spend 2 hours on a diary like many people do at dailykos adding pics and graphics etc.

You know can we make it more like dailykos so that I have 2 places to go when I want to read diaries of people who agree with me and 0 places to go where people don't agree with me...

You're so right! This site is PERFECT the way it is! This way we can keep the amount of visitors down, so we have an even cozier community!
